Woman in red may hold key to Alness assault mystery

POLICE are on the lookout for a woman who may have witnessed an alleged assault in an Easter Ross town.

Northern Constabulary issued the appeal after receiving a report on the alleged incident in Alness on Tuesday morning.

The incident is said to have taken place at 9am on the town's High Street close to the local branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

In a statement issued to appeal for public assistance, Northern Constabulary said: "An alleged assault took place on Alness High Street near to the Royal Bank of Scotland.

"It is believed that following the assault, the perpetrator left the area with another person within a white van.

"Officers would like to speak to a woman wearing a red jacket who may have intervened to help stop the assault."
