Scottish theme day set to add tartan touch
ELGIN’s second Scottish Theme Day is set to add a splash of tartan to the centre of the city.
The event next Saturday, May 5, is part of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky festival, now in its 13th year. It will start at 10am with a Scottish themed market offering a range of locally produced Scottish fayre and crafts including whisky tasting.
Moray College hospitality students will be undertaking cookery demonstrations using a range of ingredients from local producers and retailers creating mouth-watering Scottish dishes with a ‘Whisky twist’ in keeping with the theme of the event. The demonstrations will take place throughout the day.
At 11am the entertainment gets underway with Elgin and District Pipe Band playing at a number of locations.
Throughout the day visitors will be treated to a range of spectacular Scottish music and dance with Moray Dance, Wots Next, Fortunate Sun, Blair Mcleod and Morna Young on the Plainstones and St Giles Centre.
The spectacular 40ft Moray gig Moray Gig, Bien Trouvé, will be on view view prior to flying the flag for Moray during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the River Thames on Sunday, June 3.
There will also be Scottish Memorabilia valuations, so bring along your old hidden treasures.
For children there will be Scottish craft-making located at the east Side of St Giles Church, and a children’s storyteller telling tales and legends for 20 minute sessions every hour from 11.30am to 2.30pm in Unit 4, St Giles Centre.
There will also be a Scottish treasure hunt with great prizes up for grabs and Scottish themed window displays by many of the businesses.
