New Inverness-Amsterdam flight agreement set to improve international connectivity
PASSENGERS flying between Inverness and Amsterdam can benefit from a new agreement aimed at providing easier connections to the rest of the world.
A deal between flight operators Flybe and KLM, launched today will see luggage from out-bound Inverness passengers transferred onto their next flights by the companies, if they are transferring in Amsterdam for other destinations.
Previously, passengers have had to collect their luggage and check it in again before the next flight.
Inglis Lyon, Managing Director, HIAL said: "HIAL is delighted to have played a role in supporting the agreement between Flybe and KLM.This is strategically important as it will significantly boost our international connectivity, something which is vital to the economic future of Inverness and the wider region.
He added: "Through the daily service provided by Flybe to Amsterdam, travellers will be able to utilise the key European hub airport of Schiphol and the substantial KLM route network to reach worldwide destinations on a single booking across multiple planes - making international travel a more efficient process and better experience.
"Providing quality air links maintains our competitiveness and this agreement is great news for our business community, creating the platform for companies to access, compete and do business in international markets."
Fergus Ewing MSP for Inverness and Nairn and Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism said: "This new arrangement will be of huge potential benefit to people and businesses in the north of Scotland. The Amsterdam flight in itself was a great step forward and this arrangement will give passengers the facility to arrange much onward travel in advance utilising connections from Amsterdam.
"It will enhance the value of the Inverness and Amsterdam link and will enable many more people from destinations all over the world to travel to Inverness with greater ease."
