A BANFF pensioner was killed in a car crash on the A98 road near Cullen on Monday afternoon (June 3).

Sandy Reid (66), a retired council worker, was pronounced dead at the scene, after his blue Nissan Almera collided with a red Nissan Almera three miles from Cullen.

The crash happened at about 1.30pm and the vehicles had been going in opposite directions.

The 59-year-old male driver of the red car was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be treated for injuries, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

His female passenger, aged 56, was taken by ambulance to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin and she was later released.

Sergeant David Pirie, of Police Scotland’s Divisional Road Policing Unit, urged anybody who saw either of the vehicles involved to come forward.

He said: "We are currently making enquiries into the circumstances of this collision and I would appeal for witnesses who saw either of these vehicles travelling on the road and who we have not spoken to already to contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency 101 number."
