STV weatherman and Gaelic student Sean Batty revealed a new resource for those learning the language at the Royal National Mòd this week.

LearnGaelic.net offers users grammar guidance, a terminology tool and information on Gaelic culture to bolster their command and knowledge of the language.

With a dictionary, thesaurus and over 400 clips from TV series Speaking Our Language, the site can also help those who have been fluent for years.

The site is split into three ability levels for adults, beginner, intermediate and advanced, and a further three sections for under five, primary school and secondary school learners.

Sean said: “Learners like myself will find this new site absolutely fantastic as there are so many learning resources to hand which are very well organised into categories. For a learner it’s vital that materials are easy to find and are well laid out, otherwise someone can lose interest very quickly and stop the learning process.”

Alasdair Allan, Scottish Minister for Learning and Skills (with responsibility for Gaelic & Scots), said: “As a Gaelic learner myself, I warmly welcome these new resources. The site should have something for everyone – beginners, youngsters and teachers – and I expect it to become an important resource in Gaelic education.”

Guidance for parents, teachers and carers, as well as details on Gaelic classes and courses around Scotland are also available on the site.
