Delight for Davie, super Staggies furry friend!
A DISCERNING Dingwall dog who lost the shirt off his back in bizarre circumstances amidst celebrations for Ross County's title-winning antics is back in his favourite colours.
Since becoming the apparent victim of crime at the hands of t-shirt thieves last weekend, cocker spaniel Davie has been finding it hard to deal with the trauma and loss of his favourite Ross County football strip.
Davie was apparently mugged of his top outside his owner Greg Cormack’s shop in Dingwall High Street as he prepared to watch his favourite team parade in triumph with the Irn-Bru First Division trophy through the town last Saturday.
When the league sponsors heard about the incident, they concluded it was no shaggy dog story and sprang into action.
Representatives returned to Ross-shire's County town to lend a helping paw, aranging the presentation of a special t-shirt for the Staggies' number one four-legged fan.
Davie has now become the proud owner - and wearer - of the champions t-shirt as sported by the County players at the league title celebration last Saturday.
Speaking on behalf of Davie, owner Greg said: “Since last week’s incident my wife has been worrying about Davie – he hasn’t been quite himself and she’s suggested counselling for him as a victim of crime.
"His new t-shirt came just at the right time and is now a key staple in his wardrobe for match days.He can’t wait to go and watch the Staggie’s play in the SPL next season wearing it!”
Davie was given a double boost on Saturday as his County heroes made it 34 games unbeaten after a thrilling last-day-of-the-season 5-3 victory away to Queen of the South.
Both sides now bid farewell to the First Division. Queen of the South are relegated while Ross County march on to unchartered territory in the SPL next season.
This week's issue of the Ross-shire Journal includes a page of photographs from that very special celebration last week. Keep your eyes open for a special supplement appearing in a forthcoming edition of the paper.
