The new pavement will run from Auchernack at the west end of the High Street to Murdoch’s butchers at the east end.
A council spokesman said that during the current financial year it is hoped to complete the section on the south side from Tolbooth Street to Leys Road and Leys Road to Murdoch’s.
"The budget for that is £55,000," he said. "The plan is to resurface the worst sections first."
He said: "We were specifically requested by the community council to avoid if possible carrying out the work at the height of the summer when there are lots of activities going on so the next phase if provisionally programmed to start at the beginning of September.
The work has been carried out in consultation with the community council which was given the opportunity to comment on the scope of the work and the surfacing materials etc.
A community council spokesman told the ‘Gazette’ they welcomed the work.
