GLENURQUHART chase a place in the MacAulay Cup final tomorrow when they face Fort William in Inverness.

A generation has passed since the Glen contested the final, although co-manager Drew MacNeil has a couple of winners medals in his possession from his days with Fort William.

“Semi-finals are notoriously difficult to negotiate and in my experience they are best treated like any other round in the cup,” he said.

“Obviously the excitement and expectation levels among our supporters will be high but as far as I am concerned it will only mean something if we can go on and win the final.”

MacNeil and his co-boss Fraser Mackenzie hope to have a fully fit squad available and sees the midfield battle as key.

“We are strong in that department but we need a big performance from them,” he said.

“Against Skye in the Camanachd Cup they were below par but against Kingussie they were outstanding and I would not have swapped them for any other unit in the sport.”

MacNeil has moved on from the pain of being rejected by Fort William after he was sacked by the club, despite bringing them an unprecedented level of success both as a player and a coach.

“It doesn’t bother me at all,” he said. “I know all their players and I am still friendly with many of them but it will make no difference because we will be going flat out to get to the final.”
