THE Guinness Book of World Records has officially named a whisky, produced in Moray, as the most-expensive ever sold at auction.

The one-of-a-kind Macallan 64-year-old was sold for $460,000 (£291,125) at Sotheby’s in New York in November 2010.

However, it is only now that it has been confirmed as the priciest bottle in the world.

David Cox, the Director of Fine and Rare Whiskies for The Macallan, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the Guinness World Record for the most expensive whisky sold at auction.

"This major accolade from such a world-renowned and respected organisation, proves once and for all that The Macallan is the world record holder."
