Emergency services dealing with lorry fire near Slochd

The A9 is now open after being shut in both directions while emergency services have been dealing with an articulated lorry fire on the Metal Bridge about two miles south of the Slochd Summit.

The old A9 which runs beneath the metal bridge was also closed.

Diversions from Inverness south were in place from Raigmore via the A96, the A939 and Grantown on Spey returning to the A9.

The same diversionary route applied to traffic heading north.

Five fire appliances have been operating at the scene, one from Aviemore, two from Inverness and two specialist appliances from Inverness.

In total 22 firefighters attended the incident with eight utilising breathing apparatus and specialist foam equipment to bring the fire under control.
