Police issue bike week advice

CYCLISTS ave been given some advice from police in the run up to Bike Week 2011, which starts on Saturday.

They have been given a series of tips to help stop their bicycles being stolen.

And they are also being given advice on how to reclaim their bike if the worst does happen.

Key to preventing a bike being stolen is to buy and use a good quality lock.

Police advise cyclists to spend 10-15% of the cost of their bike on the lock.

They also sugest securing a bike to a solid object where it is in view of other people or CCTV cameras and to remove or secure anything which could be taken from the bike.

Cyclists should also make sure their bike is secure if it is being stored in a shed or garage.

The police have also advised people have their bike security marked and to record the details of this marking.
