Local trio Nick Harding, Matt McBride and Rob Dickenson were last year’s winners of the trophy.

Two weeks ago it was the turn of under-18 golfers to test their game over the world famous course in a junior open competition, and 16-year-old David Grindell from Inverness Golf Club led the way with a superb scratch 73, (nett 68), to win the Matheson Trophy.

The overall best nett score came from Lewis Gill from Liberton with 91 (25) 66 to secure the open handicap Matheson Trophy.

Steven Clark carried home the confined to members Phimster Trophy, with nett 73, off 11 handicap.

In the 15 years and over age group, there was a first Dornoch scratch success for another Inverness junior, Kieran Mackay, with a gross card of 78. In the handicap scoring, Brora’s Kyle Sutherland matched the CSS of 71 with gross 80 less his nine handicap.

In the 14 years and under group, Steven Clark from Cruden Bay had a winning gross 80 and there were two handicap winners from Reay in Caithness, Ian Mackay(18) 68, and Euan Munro (17) 71.
