Match abandoned - again - as Ross County live to fight another day
A WATERLOGGED pitch put the dampeners on Ross County's trip to Paisley - prompting the Dingwall club's second call-off in just over a week.
There was a silver lining for the Staggies in dreich conditions though - hosts St Mirren were 2-0 up when referee Willie Collum finally made the decision to abandon the match in the second half.
Saints were two up at the break after goals from Paul McGowan and Steven Thompson.
Collum withdrew players from the park several minutes into the second period amid heavy rain as ground staff were tasked with trying to clear water from the pitch.
But following a half-hour delay, it was confirmed the match would not continue - to the chagrin of some home supporters keenly anticipating a precious victory.
Collum justified the decision, saying players were having to check their tackles and that the ball was clearly sticking.
He deemed the pitch unplayable and dangerous and said the referee was responsible for players' safety.
Ross County's Highland derby clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle was abandoned on Friday last week when the floodlights failed. Whule the fixtures backlog will be a concern, the County camp will in this instance be relieved to have the opportunity to fight another day.
Elsewhere, Inverness Caledonian Thistle made ground on champions Celtic. ICT overcame Kilmarnock 2-1 in Inverness while Celtic played out a 1-1 draw with Dundee United.
Hearts returned to earth with a bump, going down 2-0 at home to St Johnstone.
