ROSS County defeated visitors Aberdeen 2-0 in the Clydesdale Bank SPL to make it three matches unbeaten on Saturday.

The Staggies made just one change to the side which drew 2-2 at Hearts last week. Steven Ross came into the starting 11 in place of Gary Glen.

The visitors had the best of the opening exchanges but could not find a way through.

They were dealt a blow on 10 minutes when Stephen Hughes' injury led him to come off. He was replaced by Chris Clark.

County's first chance arrived on 15 minutes when skipper Richard Brittain whizzed a 25-yarder over the bar.

Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamnie Langfield then had to come to his team's rescue when he got hold of a shot from Stuart Kettlewell.

Kettlewell then almost cashed in on Langfield's poor clearance, but Rocco Quinn header was somehow touched over the top when the keeper made a swift recovery.

Mark Reynolds tested Fraser with Aberdeen's first shot on 34 minutes, but two minutes later he diverted a Richard Brittain free-kick past Langfield to give County the advantage.

The Dons almost levelled when Gavin Rae picked up a careless pass from Marc Fitzpatrick but drilled the ball off the bar.

Scott Vernon should have squared the contest just before the break, but his shot from 10 yards finished past the far post.

Four minutes into the second half, County doubled their lead when Steven Ross beat the offside trap and coolly slotted the ball beyond Langfield.

Aberdeen tried to get back into it and Vernon forced a decent save from Michael Fraser when he met a Chris Clark free-kick on the hour mark.

The Dons did get back into the match on 76 minutes when sub Jonny Hayes broke through the home defence and laid it into his path.

Aberdeen came close to getting a stoppage tine leveller, but Rae flashed a header wide and County clinched all three points.
