Top rocker set for gig in Wick
A FORMER guitarist with top rock group Bad Company will be playing a gig in Caithness next month.
Dave ‘Bucket’ Colwell performed around the world with the band in the 1990s and again in the early part of the 21st century.
He will be playing at Pulteneytown People’s Project in Wick in the afternoon of Sunday, March 10, with his band in what will be his first appearance in the far north.
His backing group for the 11-date tour features four members of the band Roadway who were one of the main stage acts at last year’s B-fest. They have been nominated for the best live act award at this year’s Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
Dave is looking forward to the gig. "I can’t wait to get up to Caithness and rock with the Roadway guys. They played Wick last year and really said it’s a terrific place to play. This will be my first time touring up as far north as that.
"I really couldn’t be happier with the band line-up. They are all very well prepared for the set list we’ve got, which includes plenty of the Bad Company hits I enjoyed playing around the world during my time in the band," he said.
"This is a mid-afternoon show so what better way to spend a Sunday than with a beer in hand and some rock and roll."
During his 11 years with Bad Company he contributed to three studio albums and two live albums. He has worked with members of The Who, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Foreigner and other well-known musicians. He also played with the band Humble Pie.
Throughout the 1980s Dave performed in several bands including Samson and ASAP and guested with FM. Around that time one of his songs called Reach Out was recorded by Iron Maiden. In 1992 he joined Bad Company.
Ten years later he was with Humble Pie for their album Back On Track and performed with them until 2003.
Around that time, Dave rejoined the ranks of Bad Company with vocalist and original frontman Paul Rodgers and original band drummer Simon Kirke. They toured America and the UK bringing new life to the band and reviving the Bad Company name.
In 2010 Dave’s debut solo album Guitars, Beers and Tears was released. It comprised 12 tracks and had a host of guest performers including members of Iron Maiden, The Quireboys, Thunder and New York Dolls.
His current show will feature some of the hits from Bad Company, numbers from Dave’s solo album as well as some Roadway tracks.
The line-up for the tour includes Caithness-born vocalist Dougie Greig as well as the up-and-coming Scottish rock guitarist Ross McEwen who previously worked with former Rainbow vocalist Doogie White and gigged on both sides of the Atlantic.
The tour also takes in Orkney and Inverness. Tickets for the PPP show are available at the door and cost £5. The doors open at 3pm.
