A MULBEN couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last week.

George Rhynas (83) and wife Margaret (80) got married at St John's Church in Deskford on Friday, July 14, 1961.

The pair had met two years earlier at a young farmers' Burns Supper in Fordyce – and it was almost love at first sight.

Still living on the farm where George grew up, Margaret said the key to a 60-year-long relationship is "hard work".

And the pair know a lot about hard work, with George continuing to put in the hours on the farm at the age of 83.

Margaret said: "We started living here in 1961. George was born here and is still farming here to this day.

"I worked on the farm, too, although not much with the machinery.

"I think that's how it worked for us – a lot of hard work."

The couple, who stay with their dog, Glen, have two daughters in Jane and Anne and four grandchildren in Lauren, Katelyn, Archie and Danny.

Both daughters continue to reside in the north-east of Scotland with their respective families, allowing for plenty of time with the grandchildren.
