Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has met with a constituent collecting donations to support Ukrainians who have had to flee their homes after Russia’s invasion.

Ms Martin was joined by her Aberdeenshire Council colleague Louise McAllister to meet with Maryanna Eddie at her business in Ellon where donations are being collected.

Ms Eddie, who is from Ukraine, has family and friends still living in the country and has been doing all she can to help support those need.

The fundraising efforts began when the businesswoman realised many Ukrainians were struggling to access even basic items including underwear and sanitary products.

The owner of Prestige Town regularly shares updates on her social media of what items are needed for people.

The donations are then sent down to London where they are then taken across to Ukrainians.

Commenting, Gillian Martin MSP said: “It was an honour to meet with Maryanna and hear from her first-hand how she is helping those most in need by organising donations to be taken to those most in need.

“Many of Maryanna’s own family and friends are still in Ukraine unsure of what will happen from one day to the next.

“It is a testament to the strength and resolve of Maryanna and her fellow country men and women that she is doing all she can to help others.

"Please, if you can donate anything, do so.”

Ellon and District Councillor Louise McAllister said: “It was lovely to meet with Maryanna and see all the hard work going into supporting the people of Ukraine.

"Maryanna is hugely grateful for all the kindness and support the people of Ellon and district have given her, and we hope to bring some comfort to those in the midst of such a crisis.

“Maryanna will be posting updates on social media so that we know what is needed most so please do like and share wherever possible – we will do all we can to help those most in need.”
