Richard Lochhead says he's keen to hear from neurology patients about their experiences of the services and care available in Moray.

.

The MSP met this week with representatives from the local branches of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Huntington’s Association as well as the Elgin and District Parkinson’s Group.

Mr Lochhead stated that their discussions revolved around concerns over the services currently available in Moray to patients with such neurological conditions.

He said: "Our meeting was the first time the different support groups had come together to raise their concerns and to share their experiences.

"Although they support people with different conditions it was clear that the support they’re looking for is similar.

"Concerns were raised about the need for people to travel to Aberdeen for many appointments.

"There’s a real demand for more support and care to be delivered locally for those living with conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s.

"This is something I’ll be pursuing with NHS Grampian as I know there were discussions a few years back about how to improve neurology services in Moray.

"I’m keen to understand where this work has got to.

"I recognise how challenging life can be for patients living with these conditions and for family and friends who provide a great deal of support to their loved ones.

"We need to ensure that Moray has adequate services, such as nursing care, consultant clinics, and respite, in order to meet local needs.

"I’ve committed to working with these groups to take forward their concerns and to support their calls for improved services for patients in Moray.

"I would be pleased to hear from constituents who have experience of these services so we can make a strong case to NHS Grampian."
