Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has written to Police Scotland after complaints from residents in Ellon about anti-social behaviour.

It comes after incidents including graffiti, vandalism and intimidating behaviour were reported by concerned constituents.

Ms Martin has asked Police Scotland to confirm what action is being taken to address the anti-social behaviour and said there were fears young people from other areas were travelling to Ellon to cause disruption.

In a letter to Police Scotland, Ms Martin said: “I write following on from discussions with multiple constituents in Ellon, who have approached me regarding ongoing problems with antisocial behaviour.

“I understand from constituents that the cycle track in Gordon Park is being regularly attacked, along with other properties locally.

"Among other concerns raised with me are that youngsters from other settlements are travelling to the town with disruption in mind.

"I further understand that the worst of the problems happen at the weekends, specifically Friday and Saturday.

“I would be grateful if you could confirm whether you are aware of these concerns and, if so, what steps the local police are taking to deal with the matter and provide reassurance to local residents.”

Commenting, Ms Martin said: “Residents should not have to fear where they go in the vicinity of their own homes because of disruption being caused by youngsters which is disruptive and intimidating.

“I have asked Police Scotland what action is being taken to address residents’ concerns and prevent this type of behaviour from happening.

“I look forward to hearing from the local officers and hearing how new measures have been put in place.”
