Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Karen Adam met with leaders from women’s advocacy organisations to discuss future plans to support the thousands of women facing structural, labour, health and financial inequalities.

The new MSP first met with Gill Skene of the Let’s All Talk North East Mums (LATNEM) organisation, which is run by Mothers with lived experience of mental health issues during the ante/perinatal period to support other mothers who may be facing the same.

In the days following, Ms Adam then met with other leaders in the sector, including Eilidh Dickson from Engender Scotland, Sara Cowan from Scottish Women’s Budget Group (SWBG), and Ruth Boyle from Close the Gap.

Commenting, Karen Adam MSP said: “It’s been a pleasure to meet with so many incredible women from organisations and charities dedicated to fighting gender inequality.

“They do a power of work! Women’s health, economic disparity and employment opportunities must be considered as part of the foundation to build policy on.

"Still in 2021 women are baring the majority of unpaid care, still there is a gender pay gap, and still we see the massive issues women face when seeking adequate healthcare.

“I have to say how glad I am to see the roll out of the 1140 hours of free childcare, a dedicated Women’s Health Minister to oversee the rollout of the women’s health plan, and our commitment to a women’s business centre.

“We can and will always work to do more.

"I will work to ensure that the communications opened this week continue over this next term of government so we can work together to secure a safer, healthier and more equal society for women.”
