A north-east MSP has announced he will be seeking re-election at next year’s Scottish Parliament elections.

Alexander Burnett is currently the MSP for Aberdeenshire West and has again been selected as the Scottish Conservative candidate for next year’s vote.

Mr Burnett has held the seat since 2016 and is currently the party’s energy and connectivity spokesman.

Since being elected, the MSP has repeatedly campaigned across Aberdeenshire West for bridge repair funding, better broadband speeds and raised awareness of issues surrounding autism.

Upon being announced as the Scottish Conservative candidate, he said: “It’s an honour and a privilege to seek re-election as MSP for Aberdeenshire West.

“Aberdeenshire West needs strong representation which is why I want to continue the work which has been done since 2016 to make sure our area remains an integral part of key decisions relating to key issues.

“From infrastructure to connectivity, the SNP continues to abandon the north-east in favour of the Central Belt and I’m determined to stand up for the area I love and represent to ensure our views are heard.

“In these unprecedent times, it’s more important than ever that Aberdeenshire West gets its fair share and can continue to thrive.”
