Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Karen Adam was elected as the vice-chair of Holyrood's International Development Cross Party Group at its recent meeting.

The purpose of the group is to ensure liaison between MSPs and organisations working in Scotland on international aid and development issues.

To further raise awareness in Scotland of these issues and to provide a forum for discussion, while also promoting stronger links between the country and international aid and development agencies.

The group also seeks to promote development education in Scotland, support organisations working in international aid and development programmes and where appropriate facilitate regular visits to the country by representatives of the international humanitarian agencies.

Engaging with minority residents to encourage their involvement in the work of the group is further part of its remit.

MSP Sarah Boyack was elected as the cross party group's chair.

Ms Adam said: “I’m delighted to have been elected to the position of vice-chair on the International Development Cross Party Group in the Scottish Parliament.

“As we head to COP 26, we must highlight the need to support those living in the global south who have been exposed to the worst effects of climate change which they didn’t create.

“I’ll do everything I can to support Scotland’s aims of combatting climate change, and also ensuring we do our part to help the world’s most in need as a result of the global climate crisis.”
