Gordon MP Richard Thomson urges pension credit sign up as cost of living crisis continues

Increasing levels of inflation and rising bills have left many households across Gordon reeling from high costs for food, fuel and energy.

Local MP Richard Thomson is urging eligible pensioners in the constituency to make sure they take up their pension credit entitlement, which could help with further cost of living pressures.

This is extra money to assist with living costs if the applicant is over State Pension age and on a low income.

Pension credit can also assist with housing costs or service charges.

It is easy to apply online, via the phone or by post.

Applicants can begin their application four months before they reach pensionable age and apply any time afterwards, however an application can only be backdated three months so it is best to apply early.

Commenting, Richard Thomson said: “The Tory cost-of-living crisis continues, with households across Gordon set to be slammed by the National Insurance hike, spiralling energy bills and increases in food prices.

"Pensioners in particular remain vulnerable to these economic shocks, so I’m urging those eligible to ensure they’re receiving their full entitlements.

“Pensioner poverty remains a real issue across the country, and pension credit can make all the difference in helping deal with these pressures.

"I urge families and friends across Gordon to check, to make sure their loved ones are getting the support they deserve.”
