A CHARITY which supports families with disabled or seriously ill children and young people will come to Huntly next week.
A representative from the charity will visit the Gordon Rural Action office at 55 Gordon Street, Huntly, from 10.00am until 3.00pm on Friday, May 12.
The charity will share details of the essential grant support available for those families hit hardest by the cost-of-living price rises.
Family Fund offer grants to parents or carers on a low income raising disabled, or seriously ill children, up to the age of 18.
The charity also operates the Scottish Government-funded Take a Break scheme, which provides grants to parent carers of disabled children and young people 20-and-under with complex additional support needs.
This aim of this fund is to improve unpaid carers’ quality of life, health and wellbeing by providing cash grants to help them access a short break from the day-to-day routine of caring.
“I’m delighted that Family Fund have agreed to visit Huntly and I’m very grateful to Gordon Rural Action for hosting their visit," Richard Thomson MP said.
“This respected charity provides vital support to parents and carers of disabled or seriously ill children and young people and it’s important to get the message out to those who could benefit that support is out there.
“I’m particularly keen to help promote the Take-a-Break scheme aimed at parent carers and eligible kinship carers of those who have complex additional support needs.
"Self-care is important in these situations and highlighting the support available is important.”
As well as individuals, local organisations who may be unaware of how to access support for eligible children and families from the BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme and Family Fund Business services have been encouraged to come along.
The event follows on from the successful Cost-of-Living advice event held by the MP in Inverurie in February.
