A LOCAL politician has said he is "pleased" with the progress being made on extending mobile coverage in Gordon.

Gordon's SNP MP Richard Thomson received an update on improvements to mobile coverage in the constituency last week during a meeting with BT Group chief executive Philip Jansen.

Telecoms company EE has already improved 4G coverage in more than 1300 areas across the UK, including more than 500 in the last year, through the Shared Rural Network (SRN) Programme.

The company has pledged to extend its 4G coverage in more than 900 additional locations by mid-2024, including 245 in Scotland.

Nine of the locations which have received upgrades in the past 12 months have been in Gordon.

Mr Thomson said: “I was pleased to hear of the good progress being made in extending mobile coverage in Gordon Constituency.

“For those in areas not yet served or upgraded, clearly there is still much to do to ensure everyone benefits, but this was a very useful briefing and I look forward to further progress across the north-east in early course.”

Philip Jansen, Chief Executive of BT Group, said: “BT is committed to ensuring that even the most remote areas of the country are connected.

"Despite a challenging economic environment, we are continuing to invest in rural infrastructure to achieve that.

"EE’s 4G has expanded by 500 square miles over the past year and we continue to be the sole provider of mobile services in many areas of the UK.”
