Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has spoken out on his disappointment at Aberdeenshire Council Infrastructure Services Committee's decision to keep a booking system in place for household recycling centres.

MP David Duguid, who has been contacted by concerned residents over the current system, said: “I’m disappointed the committee has voted in favour of keeping the booking system in place which is having a negative impact on recycling centre usage across Aberdeenshire.

“Having completed the survey myself as an Aberdeenshire resident, I was surprised to find the multiple choices were biased towards keeping the system in place.

"The only way to add a negative response was to manually type in a comment.

“Of the 1,678 comments given during the consultation, 1,360 called for bookings to be removed which emphasises the public’s growing displeasure at the current procedure.

“At recycling centres such as Peterhead, we have seen a drop of almost 2,500 tonnes of recycled waste since 2019 which I believe is contributing to a rise in fly-tipping in my area.

“Rather than restricting people, we should be encouraging as many residents as possible to use these valuable facilities.”
