Richard Lochhead has been sworn in to the Scottish Parliament as MSP for Moray following his re-election last week.

Mr Lochhead took his affirmation in both English and in Doric.

He also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Keith which was named Scotland’s first Scots Toun.

Speaking after the ceremony that took place in the Scottish Parliament Chamber, Mr Lochhead said: "It’s an absolute privilege to represent Moray in the Scottish Parliament.

"Having taken my affirmation now, I’m completely focussed on getting back to working hard for everyone who lives here.

"I was proud to take my oath in Doric given the importance of the language to our local culture and heritage.

"Keith was named as Scotland’s first ‘Scots Toun’ and the local community has played a huge role in the promotion of Doric and the Scots language.

"It was special for me as the local MSP to be sworn-in using the local dialect.

"Since I was first elected as Moray’s MSP in 2006, I have always done my best to work for all of my constituents whether they voted for me or not – and I will continue to do so."

Mr Lochhead pledged to work hard to help Moray get beyond its current difficulties.

He said: "The last year has been incredibly challenging for people in Moray.

"Local businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic, and the high case numbers in the area are a stark reminder that we’re not out of the woods yet.

"My immediate focus is supporting our communities through these difficult times and working to ensure that as we recover we tackle the inequalities which exist locally.

"I want to reiterate that whilst my constituency office remains closed in line with public health guidance, I remain accessible to people across Moray and my team continues to work hard from home.

"Over the next five years I’ll be doing all I can to ensure that Moray has a bright future and to supporting my constituents.

"I would encourage anyone requiring assistance with issues to get in touch with my office."
