Moray fell silent at noon today as part of a National Day of Reflection to mark one year since the UK first went into lockdown.

The heartfelt gesture was also about remembering those who have died.

Commenting afterwards, Richard Lochhead said: "One year on from the first lockdown it is right and proper that we took time to stop and reflect on what has happened over the last 12 months, and to think about those families who have lost loved ones due to Covid.

"This virus has had a devastating impact on families across the country, and indeed across the world.

"It’s important that we remember those who have died this year, and that we think of the families that weren’t able to say a proper goodbye or even come together to support each in their grief.

"The first anniversary of lockdown is also a good time to remember the incredible efforts of those working on the frontline in the most challenging of circumstances, particularly those in our NHS and social care services.

"They are the very best of us and we will never be able to thank them enough for what they do for us.

"We know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and better days lie ahead.

"But as we move forward we must not forget those we have lost."
