PEOPLE in Moray are sharing views from their doorsteps as part of a VisitScotland online tourism campaign during lockdown.

Hundreds of views from across Scotland have been shared as part of the national tourism agency's social media campaign, #AWindowOnScotland.

From views of historic Elgin Cathedral to Moray Firth sunsets, residents and business owners in Moray Speyside have been sharing their own unique outlooks on the world while staying home – and reminding others of what awaits them when travel restrictions are lifted.

As part of the regional contribution, Moray Firth Tours shared an image of Elgin Cathedral behind a carpet of daffodils, resident Jackie Andrews shared her picture of an unusually quiet A96 and Moray Speyside Tourism shared hashtagged images from their Instagram followers, including Lossiemouth beach, seasonal spring blossoms on the trees and stunning sunsets taken along the Moray coast.

Since the campaign was launched three weeks ago, the hashtag has been used around 2500 times across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, creating a visual map of Scotland’s villages, towns and cities.

Residents are asked to take a picture of a view from their house and post it on social media using the hashtag #AWindowOnScotland and their location (i.e. #Moray, #MoraySpeyside, #Elgin).

The campaign has a clear "stay at home" message but allows people to showcase their homeland to the world.

Day visits and staycations will be the focus of Scottish tourism when restrictions are eased, as set out in the national action plan published by the Scottish Tourism Emergency Response Group, chaired by VisitScotland.

VisitScotland regional director Jo Robinson said: "We’re thrilled at the reaction to #AWindowOnScotland from residents across Moray Speyside and heartened that businesses and locals are engaging with the campaign and using the opportunity to share their windows on Scotland with the world during this challenging time.

"The staycation market will be a key driver in the country’s economic recovery and the many wonderful views people have been sharing while they stay at home will surely be an incentive for many to travel when the time comes.

"The campaign is far from over and we’d encourage residents and businesses to continue posting their views, however they may look, as it is all Scotland, to help lift the spirits of those at home and abroad."
