Moray Covid cases rise again over past week

A total of 137 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray within the last week, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 2954.

This is an increase on the 115 cases confirmed in last week's update.

A total of 739 people have tested negative for Covid-19 since August 24, up from 702 last week.

The number of people in the area to have died due to Covid-19 since the outbreak began remains 42.

Of those 42, 32 have tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days, while 10 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 27,605 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began – up 1997 from last week's update.

Moray neighbourhood update

A total of 20 out of 24 different 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray confirmed at least three cases of coronavirus between August 23 and August 29.

Elgin is by far the worst hit town, with 56 cases of the virus – more than double the 26 recorded during the seven previous days.

Lossiemouth has 20 cases compared to 14.

Buckie has 17 compared to 13.

Keith and Fife Keith recorded six cases, which is a rise from four.

Forres has a dozen – all in the southern half of the town – whereas it has less then three previously.

Other areas with cases of the virus are:

  • South Spey and the Cabrach (13);
  • Rafford, Dallas, Dyke to Dava (12);
  • Burghead, Roseisle and Laich (11);
  • Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry (10);
  • Cullen, Portknockie, Fondochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock (eight);
  • Rural Keith and Strathisla (seven);
  • North Speyside (seven);
  • Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley (four).
