Moray Council votes to stick with status quo

A bid to overturn the way Moray Council is run has just been defeated in a vote.

An online meeting of the full council saw a motion put forward to change the local authority's SNP-minority administration rejected by 13 votes to 11, with one abstention.

The motion put forward by the Conservative group leader Tim Eagle (Buckie) would also have seen the council's current committee system replaced with an executive cabinet system.

Cllr Eagle argued that an executive cabinet system would be "smaller, smarter and swifter".

Arguing against the motion, the council's convenor Shona Morrison (Fochabers/Lhanbryde, SNP) claimed any change would be "irresponsible" at this present time.
