Moray Council has published guidance for families ahead of pupils returning to schools and nurseries on Wednesday.

The guidance, which was written in consultation with head teachers, and has been sent directly to parents.

It follows confirmation from the Scottish Government that schools can return next week.

The guidance gives details on transport, catering arrangements, cleaning practices and what pupils are permitted to bring to school.

Schools and nurseries will also share any specific instructions they have themselves.

Moray Council’s Head of Education, Vivienne Cross, said: "There’s no doubt that school and nursery is going to be different for everyone returning or starting new on August 12.

"We appreciate it may be an anxious time for parents, carers and pupils.

"We’ve provided as much information as possible to answer the questions we’ve heard parents, carers and pupils asking over the summer.

"We want to be as open as we can with what school and nursery will be like for pupils from next week, but there will be an element of learning for us too as this is all new to staff as well.

"We ask that parents and carers familiarise themselves and their children with this guidance as far as possible before the start of term and do contact your school with any further questions.

"We’re here to support families step back into the ‘new norm’ of education."
