BIRTH registrations in Moray will recommence next week.

Registration offices will reopen for high-priority tasks from Monday, June 29.

Birth registrations across Scotland were temporarily suspended in late March to allow registrars to prioritise death and still-birth registrations.

Moray Council is introducing a staggered birth registration system, based on the date of birth of the child, to address the backlog.

For children born before March 31, registration will commence from June 29; for those born between April 1-30, registration will begin on July 13; for births between May 1-31, registration starts on July 27; for June 1-30 births, registration begins on August 10; for July 1-31 births, registration begins on August 24; for August 1-31 births, registration begins on September 7; for births from September 1 onwards, registration starts on September 21.

Registrars will log most details over the phone, with a strict appointment system for face-to-face signing of papers. Social distancing will be observed and residents are asked not to enter the registration office without an appointment.

Those looking to register a birth should contact the council’s registration office on 01343 554600 to make an appointment. People are asked not to call the office to make an appointment until the registration commencement date.
