A new book by children at an award-nominated Aberdeenshire school has been given the Prime Minister's seal of approval.

Monymusk School pupils in primaries one to three produced Jock's Daunder Roon Monymusk, which tells an original story in Doric and an account of how their volume was produced.

It teaches readers the Doric language while following the adventures of local legend, Jock the Giant o' Bennachie.

And it has been nominated for the Scots Bairns Book o' the Year and Scots School o' the Year awards.

Voting closes on September 10 and the awards will be presented at Johnstone Town Hall on September 16.

Local MP Andrew Bowie heard pupils discuss their craft on a visit to the primary in June, and presented Rishi Sunak with his own copy at Westminster this week.

Mr Bowie said: "One of the best visits a local politician gets to make is to meet pupils and teachers.

"The creativity of children can teach us older folks a thing or two.

"I grew up in Inverurie and think it's great that Doric and Scots publications and education are thriving in Aberdeenshire.

"Jock's Daunder is a great book that would be a valuable addition to any school or home in the north east. I wish Monymusk PS all the best for the awards and there is still time for public votes to make the difference.

"The Prime Minister was delighted to hear Jock's story and I'll be asking him how his Doric is coming along next time I see him."
