A military veteran had been awarded a certificate of meritorious service for his work with the cadets in Keith.

Sergeant Major Instructor John Cameron was presented with the accolade on Tuesday night by Andy Simpson, the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire.

John started his working life as a young soldier in the Gordon Highlanders.

Following the amalgamation of the regiments he then saw service with The Highlanders, attaining the rank of Warrant Officer 2nd Class.

After a 24-year period of distinguished service, he then trained as an electrician

However, in 2011, he then returned to the military after accepting employment with the Highland Reserve Forces and Cadet Association.

This role has seen him providing support to the Corruna Company, which covers the Keith, Banff and Buckie region.

The following year, he also began as an adult volunteer on Tuesday evenings with the cadets.

A spokesperson said: "The entire Battalion congratulates SMI Cameron on his well-deserved award and thanks him for his support and guidance."
