A Moray councillor has welcomed the "milestone" publication of the local authority's Climate Change Strategy.

The strategy, which appears likely to be adopted following a debate tomorrow, aims to make the council carbon-neutral by the year 2030.

Councillor Louise Nicol (Speyside Glenlivet, SNP) brought the original climate emergency motion to the local authority on June 20, 2019.

The strategy has since been worked on by a cross-party group of councillors.

Cllr Nicol said: "A huge amount of work has been put into this strategy from councillors across the political spectrum.

"The working group that was set up which was made up of heads of services, officers and cross-party elected members.

"Together we have compiled a draft strategy, consulted with the public, with amazing input from young people, and then taken those views and incorporated them in the strategy and action plan.

"In the report to councillors the inclusion of funding to support the implementation of the climate change strategy is vital to our delivery of getting the council to net zero.

"All going well, tomorrow will mark the final approval of the strategy.

"I am looking forward to both the debate on these plans and to the hugely important work that lies ahead as we do what we can to help secure our planet for future generations."
