Met Office issues yellow weather warnings for snow and ice





The Met Office has released two yellow weather warnings for the Grampian region over the next few days.

The first is for snow and ice between 3pm and midnight on Friday.

A number of areas are affected including Aberdeenshire and Moray.

The Met Office has outlined for people to expect some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

Also probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The wintry showers will continue for the rest of the day before easing towards midnight with icy patches forming on untreated surfaces.

Snow showers will lead to a slight covering of snow in places, with a few centimetres possible on higher routes.

The second yellow warning is for snow between 5pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.

A number of areas are affected including Aberdeenshire and Moray.

People should expect some roads and railways affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

Frequent and occasionally heavy snow showers are expected on Saturday night and Sunday, and combined with strong westerly winds will lead to blizzard conditions and drifting snow on higher routes across Highland.

Accumulations of 2 to 5cm are possible in places, with 10 to 15cm accumulating on routes above 300 metres. Icy patches will be an additional hazard, more especially across western coastal areas.
