Arrest made as man hounds Huntly locals for cash

POLICE arrested a man in Huntly today after reports of harassment, including offering to sell drugs and alcohol to children on their way home from school.

Residents have described the man as very tall, with dark hair and wearing a blue jacket at the time and "under the influence".

One local commented that the same man has been driving through Huntly during the past week on a black motorbike, telling people he has no money and asking them to give him enough petrol money to get to Aberdeen.

Several residents were conned into handing over cash at Asda and Tesco petrol stations and in the town centre.

They reported on social media that the man then took the money and rode off.

One local warned: "He asked me for money. The next minute a young couple came running towards me saying 'I hope you didn't give him any money – he's been drinking all day'."

Today (Wednesday) a 12-year-old girl and her friend were approached by a man of the same description offering to sell her drugs and alcohol.

Her father told the Huntly Express: "He was off his face, hassling the girls for money, offering to sell them drugs and booze.

"He wouldn't leave them alone.

"I went along to check they were OK but the police had got him by then, around Nelson Street."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We can confirm a 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a number of offences in the Huntly area on Wednesday, August 31.

"Enquiries remain ongoing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
