FOR one weekend in September, anyone visiting Macduff Aquarium and travelling there by bicycle will be offered free admission.
The offer coincides with the cycling Tour of Britain and the first stage of the race which will take place through the heart of Aberdeenshire.
It also forms part of Cycle Aberdeenshire events which are being held on the run-up to the race - all of which are being organised by Live Life Aberdeenshire.
Claire Matthews, Macduff Aquarium manager, said: "We’re very excited about the Tour of Britain starting off in beautiful Aberdeenshire this year – it will be a great opportunity to showcase our area to cycling enthusiasts and non-cyclists.
"Although the peloton won’t be whizzing through Macduff, there will be lots of interest in the event, as well as visitors here to watch the stage, and hopefully, people will be inspired to get out on their bikes. There are some fabulous bike rides along the Banffshire Coast.
“We decided at the aquarium to get involved with the Tour of Britain action, feeling that the more we can encourage cycling and active travel rather than using our cars to get about, the more we help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that gets into the atmosphere.
"With our oceans and their inhabitants facing huge challenges due to climate change, it turns out that fish actually do need bicycles."
The offer will be valid for visitors travelling to visit the aquarium from September 3 and September 4. Bicycles can be left at designated stands at the aquarium's entrance with one free entry per cyclist.
