HUNTLY celebrated the Coronation in style on Saturday as the community turned out for an upscaled Spring Festival.

And there was a special visitor who caught the imagination of younger visitors in particular.

A craft fair, extended farmers' market and stalls aplenty ensured that festival goers were not short of things to do and see.

There was also plenty of entertainment on the day with a special parade from Huntly and District Pipe Band as well as performances from The Patricia-Ann School of Dance, The Strathbogie Fiddlers and The Brenda Gordon School of Dance.

Members of Aurora Music showcased their upcoming production of The Addams Family – May 30-June 3 – with Lurch proving to be particularly popular for those wanting selfies on the day.

This year's festival was also long-time organiser Helen Arkwright's last with new Huntly Hairst organiser Kay Thomson taking over.

"It was a lovely day and it was a lovely farewell for Helen as well," Kay said.

"We took the opportunity to make it much bigger this year because of the Coronation and I think the whole thing was incredible."

Derek Dean, Huntly and District Pipe Band Drum Major, led the band through the town on its 75th anniversary.

He said it was special to parade on the day of the Coronation and in the band's home town on such a landmark year.

"It's always great to parade in you own town," he said.

"But with the Coronation and it being our 75th anniversary we wanted to do a parade. It was a really good day and a really proud day."
