A drink driver has been given a lengthy ban after he crashed into two parked cars in Buckie on his way back home.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that Lee Cunningham was caught thanks to a local taxi driver who followed his vehicle and reported him to the police.

Cunningham was first spotted by the taxi driver after he came out of a town centre bar at about 8.15pm on February 1, 2020.

The 33-year first collided into a Vauxhall parked on East Church Street.

A short time later he then crashed into a second vehicle on Elsley Place, causing extensive damage.

Cunningham was then lost to view.

However police managed to trace his car to an address not far away at Braeview Road.

The court heard that officers found the front door unlocked.

On entering they discovered Cunningham in the living room.

A breath test recorded a reading of 93 – more than four times the legal limit of 22.

Although not banned at the time of the incidents three years ago, Cunningham was later disqualified for a different driving offence.

This ban was increased by the court in Elgin to five years and eight months.

Cunningham, who currently lives with a relative in Airdrie, was also ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work for the community during the course of the next year.

In addition he was placed under a 7pm-7am curfew for six months.
