Loganair named Regional Airline of the Year at prestigious global awards
Loganair, which recently celebrated its 60th anniversary, has been named Regional Airline of the Year at the 2022 CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence.
The CAPA awards are renowned as being among the industry’s most prestigious industry accolades. Regional Airline of the Year is awarded to the operator that has stood out strategically, established itself as a leader and demonstrated innovation.
The judging panel selected Loganair in recognition of its dedication to maintaining essential connectivity, continuing to serve some of the remote islands in Scotland, while growing its reach across the UK.
Judges also praised Loganair for managing a complex network of services – which includes flights into London Heathrow – and for the agile way in which the airline has moved quickly to backfill routes and support regions following the collapse of other operators.
Founded in 1962, Loganair is now the largest regional airline in the UK by passenger numbers and fleet size, operating 42 aircraft over more than 70 routes throughout the UK and Scandinavia.
However, it also operates the world's shortest scheduled commercial route between Westray Airport and Papa Westray Airport – a distance of just 1.7 miles – as well as maintaining the use of Barra Airport, the only airport in the world to use a beach as a runway.
CAPA’s content and marketing director Marco Navarria said: “A staple of aviation in the UK, Loganair has proved itself a driving force behind regional connectivity.
"It is our pleasure to award Loganair the 2022 recipient of the CAPA Regional Airline of the Year.”
Jonathan Hinkles, CEO of Loganair, said: “We are honoured to receive the CAPA regional airline of the year award for 2022.
"It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication that the entire Loganair team have shown over the last year as we emerge from the challenges of the pandemic.
“We are very grateful for the recognition of our efforts, and we look forward to continuing to deliver for our customers this year and in the years ahead.”
The awards, which are independently researched by an international panel of experts, were held on Thursday, December 1, on the first day of the CAPA World Aviation Summit in Gibraltar.
