Richard Lochhead has responded to the plans announced by Openreach today to extend full fibre broadband to towns in Moray, including Elgin, Lossiemouth and Forres.

.

Moray’s MSP said: "Whilst I welcome steps to improve connectivity in our local towns, I am surprised that Moray’s major towns have been described as hard to reach by Openreach.

"I am now seeking an update from Openreach on plans for Moray’s villages and rural communities, where households are desperately in need of better broadband.

"Over the last few months, with people working from home and children having to access learning online, we’ve seen just how important good connectivity is for families and local businesses.

"Moray has made good overall progress in terms of improved broadband, through Scottish Government investment, with the highest connectivity in the Highlands and Islands region.

"However, responsibility for connectivity and regulation sits with the UK Government and that would make a big difference.

"It is essential that our rural communities are not left behind."
