Portsoy Thrift Shop's donation to the school's Parents Support Group (PSG) towards the purchase of books will help support pupil learning in both the classroom and at home.

Volunteers from the thrift shop visited the school to hand over the funds to PSG representatives, pupils and headteacher Linda O’Donnell.

Gillian Thomson, from PSG, said: “We are very grateful for this generous donation, which has enabled the school to purchase a collection of new reading books for pupils across all classes.

"This means that every child now has a reading book to take home to continue their learning journey.

"We give our sincere thanks to the Portsoy Thrift Shop volunteer team for their kindness and support.”

The pupils presented the thrift shop volunteers with handmade cards and drawings to note their thanks, and promised to visit the shop to see their artwork on display.

Thrift shop treasurer, Dorothy Gillespie, added: “We are delighted to continue our long-standing support of Portsoy Primary School.

"We receive many donations of items from families in Portsoy which are resold to raise funds for reinvestment back in to the local community.

"It is enjoyable having younger members of the community visit the thrift shop to find a bargain, so we are pleased we can give back to them by supporting their learning.”

Since being established in February 2000, funds raised in the thrift shop have contributed towards a variety of community-based organisations and projects in Portsoy, with most recent donations to local groups totalling in excess of £6000.

Located in The Square in Portsoy, the shop is open 10am – 4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9am – 1pm on Saturday.
