David Duguid MP has welcomed the return of the GMED and Minor Injuries services to Peterhead Hospital.

The services will resume operation at Peterhead from 7.30pm on March 27 and patients requiring urgent care are reminded to call NHS 24 on 111 to access an appointment with Minor Injury Nurses for an injury, or the GMED service for illness.

Duguid expressed his gratitude to the staff at Peterhead Hospital for their work to keep patients safe during the Legionella scare.

He also acknowledged that there is still work to be completed at the Peterhead site and hopes that the works are carried out with as little disruption to patients and staff as possible.

Patients with affected appointments at the Outpatient Clinics will be contacted directly.

While the mitigations by service are in place, the hospital authorities will reduce the footfall to allow for remedial works and to take pressure off the toilet facilities.

This follows an announcement earlier that birthing services had resumed at the Hospital, albeit for the moment without birthing pools after expecting mothers faced long and potentially dangerous journeys to Aberdeen or Inverurie.

Commenting, David said: “This is very welcome news for my constituents who rely on the medical services offered at Peterhead.

“I am grateful to the NHS and Health and Social Care Partnership for the work they have done to allow the resumption of most services.

“I hope that the remaining remedial works will be carried out as quickly and as safely as possible so that birthing pools and toilet and showering facilities can be returned to the level they were before the outbreak.”
