Local fundraising group celebrating about selling out a charity event
A LOCAL fundraising group is celebrating having sold out a charity event that is raising money for Junior Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF).
The Let’s Knockout Type 1 Turriff group are to host a sell-out Let’s Sparkle Ladies
Day at Turriff Bowling Club on Saturday,November 9 to raise money to fund medical research to cure type 1 diabetes.
The group was set up by Carol Carle and friends who knew people that had been affected by the life changing condition.
Back in March they raised a whopping £1200 at an Open house to kick-start their fundraising efforts.
As Carol explained about the group: “We are a group passionate about raising money to help towards finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
“For the 400,000 people in the UK that type 1 diabetes affects, this means injecting insulin several times a day just to stay alive.
Living with type 1 diabetes can be stressful, difficult to
manage, and can even lead to life threatening complications.
“Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic, life changing condition that has affected close members of our families and friends.
“It is an autoimmune disorder that stops the body from producing insulin.
“Our goal over the next year or so is to raise as much money
as possible for JDRF, a charity who’s main aim is to create a world without type 1 diabetes.
“Until that day comes, the charity is focused on improving the lives of people living with type 1, and undertaking
vital research to help prevent type 1 diabetes and it’s
complications.
“As well as our fund raising efforts, we would like to generally spread awareness and knowledge of Type 1 Diabetes, and the struggles of living with the
condition.”
She added about the sold out event: “ We are hosting a Let’s Sparkle Ladies Day which has already proven to be a success as we have sold out of 250 tickets for the day, which will be
fun-packed.
“During the event we will hold our raffle prize draw, amongst other fundraising games, with the hope to raise as much money as possible for JDRF.”
Keith Builders Merchants have donated £250 from their Charity Fund towards the group’s fundraising efforts and anyone willing to donate money, raffle prizes, something to auction or help in anyway can contact the group through their Facebook page.
