IT WAS a very special Christmas for one young Hopeman couple who welcomed their first child into the world at Dr Gray's Hospital on Christmas Day.

Noah Stuart Miles was the first Moray baby to make an appearance on the day, at 8.22am, weighing a healthy 8lbs 11oz.

His delighted parents, Amy Simpkins (22) and Jack Miles (23), of McPherson Street, had expected him to arrive on Wednesday, December 23.

Amy thanked Dr Gray's maternity staff, who handed over gifts of toys and a blanket for the newborn.

The new mum, who underwent a nine-and-a-half-hour labour, said: "The staff at Dr Gray's were brilliant – just so supportive.

"We stayed in for a few days as staff wanted to keep an eye on Noah – but he was completely fine.

"It's definitely not the Christmas we'd planned, but the whole experience couldn't have gone any better."

Jack, a Royal Engineer in the Army, and Amy, a member of Hopeman Golf Club's bar staff, have been together for more than two years.

The couple have family in Hopeman and in England, who they hope will be able to meet Noah in the not too far-off future.
