AN ELGIN nurse is the proud mum of Moray's first baby of 2021.

Little Caleb Simmons made an early appearance on January 1 at 5.12am, ahead of his January 5 due date, weighing 7lb 6oz.

Caleb is the third child for parents Fiona Goodall (30), a staff nurse at Dr Gray's Hospital's high-dependency unit, and Craig Simmons (30), a weapons technician at RAF Lossiemouth.

Fiona and Craig, who have been together for over a decade, have two willing helpers in Ethan (13) and Jack (7).

Settling into their expanded family life at home in New Elgin's Ontario Court, Fiona said: "There was a worry this time as I got closer to the due date that we'd have to travel to Aberdeen for the birth.

"I really didn't want to have to do that with the Covid-19 situation and having two older children at home to look after.

"It's a big worry to have to go to unfamiliar surroundings."

She added: "It was the ideal outcome for us that we got to go to Dr Gray's in the end. It's a vital service."

Maternity staff at Dr Gray's presented the parents with a glass snowflake-design Christmas bauble and some bibs to mark Caleb's arrival.

Fiona added: "The older two boys are fantastic with Caleb, trying to be hands-on and doing as much as they can to help."

Fiona and Craig plan to hold video calls soon with their families in England to introduce baby Caleb.
