The application by Banchory Estates Ltd for a proposed retail / commercial development on the vacant site to the north of the existing Tesco food store is bounded by Hill of Banchory East and the Burn of Bennie.

The proposals are for thee shell units which agents Ireland Design have shown in a design statement incorporating Home Bargains, Lidl and

M&S Food stores along with a Drive-thru coffee unit (Starbucks) and a 20-space electric vehicle charging hub together with site access, car parking, yard and external works.

The statement also notes that the developer is currently well progressed with the legal agreements with each of these occupiers and plans show the Home Bargain building also has potential for a fourth retailer - which at present is indicated as for garden retail, but has no secured company associated.

The site itself is already allocated for development of this type within the local development plan,

In June of 2022 Lidl indicated that it was looking for development opportunities in the north-east including finding spots in Westhill, Banff, Ellon and Stonehaven for new or redeveloped provision.

The full application APP/2022/2690 is available to view on Aberdeenshire Council's planning website.
