Charolais claims the top bull title at Thainstone

A packed Thainstoen Centre for this year's Spring Show saw pedigree bulls reach a top of 8500gns for a Charolais.

Sponsored by Azets, a total of 40 bulls from breeders across Scotland sold to new homes to average £4637.81.

The Charolais breed produced an average of £6601.88 and topped the entire sale at 8500gns for a first prize bull from Garry Patterson, Upper Forgie, Keith.

This was Aultmore Reputation, a July, 2020-born son of Blelack Immaculate, out of Aultmore Lassie, which is a daughter of Aultmore Gladiator.

A maternal brother to the 10,000gns Aultmore Phantom, he sold to Forfar with P Cooper and Son, Govals, Kincaldrum.

Next best at 8000gns was the Simmental champion named Islavale Loki 20 from the Stronach family, Berryleys, Grange, Keith.

Selling to Iain Chapman, West Cockmuir, Strichen, Fraserburgh, this 23-month-old bull is by Corskie Highlander, out of a Curaheen Bandit-sired dam named Islavale Fashion.

Reece and Andrew Simmers of Backmuir, Keith, received 7800gns for the reserve champion Simmental bull, Backmuir Lewis 20.

Born in March, 2020, he is by Islavale Imperial, out of Wolfstar Islay, and sold to Walter Leith, North Crannoch, Crossroads, Keith.

Two Charolais bulls made 7000gns with the first from the Milne family of the Elgin herd, Kennieshillock, Lhanbryde.

This was the overall champion Elgin Robocop, tapped out by the judge Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness, Orkney, who was also purchasing bulls on behalf of clients.

The Milne’s overall winner born in April, 2020, is by Caylers Noah, which has bred other sons to 11,000gns, and out of Elgin Megan, sired by Woodpark Elgin.

Born in April, 2020, he sold to the Henderson family, Udale Farm, Poyntzfield, Dingwall.

The other bull to make 7000gns was the reserve champion Charolais from Mike and Lisa Massie, Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, Ellon.

Selling to Caithness with John Anderson, Broynach Farm, Thurso, was 23-month-old Elrick Royal, by Maerdy Gouverneur, out of Elrick Jackie.

The Green family from Corskie, Garmouth, sold Corskie Lomax 20 for 6500gns to the Frasers at Auchnarrow Farm, Glenlivet, Ballindalloch.

He is a 22-month-old son of Drumagarner Hughes 16, out of Bel Dhu Capercaillie daughter, Corskie Helissa.

Three bulls made 6000gns including the second prize Charolais bull from Charlie McCombie and family, Auchincrieve, Rothiemay, Huntly.

This was 21-month-old Auchincrieve Rivaldo, by Auchincrieve Manhattan, which was purchased by the judge Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness.

The McCombie family also received 5200gns for Auchincrieve Ronaldo, when sold to J Riddell and Co, Nether Coullie, Kemnay, Inverurie.

Next at 6000gns, was the Limousin champion from Andrew Gammie’s Westpit herd at Drumforber, Laurencekirk.

Selling to A Mackay and Son, Strath Farm, Watten, was a 17-month-old Vagabond son named Westpit Rocknrolla, which full brother sold for £15,500.

Last to reach the 6000gns was a 22-month-old Simmental bull from Heather Duff, Pitmudie, Edzell, Brechin.

Producing the goods for Heather, was Boswell Lucky Man 20, by Wolfstar Gordy, which sold to AJ Blackhall, Millhead, Tarland, Aboyne.

Just behind at 5800gns was 22-month-old Lettoch Rinnes from Colin Stuart and family, Lettoch, Glenlivet.

He is by the 11,000gns Balthayock Imperial, and sold to AR Strathdee, Langlanburn, Deskford, Buckie.

Liam Muir also paid 5800gns for a 21-month-old Charolais named Inverlochy Romeo, which is by Caylers Napoleon.

Three bulls sold at 5000gns including a Charolais from AJR Farms, Milton of Collieston, Ellon, to John Anderson, Broynach Farm, Thurso; a Limousin from the Dick family, Mains of Throsk, Stirling, to MG Reid, Gyratesmyre, Fordoun, Laurencekirk; and a Simmental from the Smith family, Drumsleed, Fordoun, to J Jamieson, Newtonbrae, Newmill, Keith.

The reserve champion Limousin from Walter Cruikshank and family, Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge, Grantown-on-Spey, sold for 4500gns to G and K Beverley, Cottown Farm, Rhynie, Huntly.

This was 23-month-old Clury Robin, by the French sire, Larry.

In the Aberdeen-Angus section, Ballindalloch Home Farm, stood champion with 22-month-old Ballindalloch Epic W611, by Wedderlie Timaru, out of Ballindalloch Elizah.

He sold to the judge Liam Muir.

Overall champion in the any breed section, was a Beef Shorthorn bull from Fiona Davidson of Fordie Beef Shorthorns, Kirkton, Mintlaw.

This was Fordie Puma, by Coxhill Luke, which also sold to Liam Muir, for 2900gns.

In the sale of Limousin females from John and Margaret Penny, Shannas, Clola, Mintlaw, top price was 2900gns for Shannas Ryneth, an April, 2020-born heifer by Anside Lexion, which sold to the Stuart family of Lettoch and Belnoe, Glenlivet.

Class 3 – Limousin bull born on or after 24th March and before 24th April 2020 - 1 No 24 W Cruikshank, Clury 4500gns; 2 No 25 W Robertson Fodderletter 4000gns; 3 No 26 A & A Morrison Bush 3500gns and 4 No 28 J Penny Shannas 4000gns.

Class 4 – Limousin bull born on or after 24th April 2020 - 1 No 38 A & J Gammie Drumforber 6000gns; 2 No 36 M Massie Mains Elrick 4200gns; 3 No 32 R Dick Throsk 5000gns and 4 No 31 R Dick Throse 3500gns.

Champion No 38 – A & J Gammie Drumforber.

Reserve champion No 24 W Cruikshank Clury.

Class 5 – Simmental bull

Born on or after 1st March and before 22nd April 2020 - 1 No 46 W S Stronach Berryleys 8000gns; 2 No 55 Reece and Andrew Simmers 7800gns; 3 No 42 G W Smith Drumsleed 5000gns and 4 No 45 C & M Bruce Tillyeve 3600gns.

Class 6 – Simmental bull born on or after 22nd April 2020 - 1 No 50 H Duff Pitlundie 6000gns; 2 No 56 Reesce and Andrew Simmers unsold; 3 No 49 D C Houldey Manor Park 3000gns and 4 No 52 C & M Bruce Tillyeve 3000gns.

Champion – No 46 W S Stronach Berryleys.

Reserve champion – No 55 Reece and Andrew Simmers.

Class 7 – Aberdeen-Angus bull - 1 No 65 Ballindalloch Home Farm 3200gns; 2 No 60 Karl Scott Foggie unsold; 3 No 61 A M Shepherd Orbliston 2400gns and 4 No 59 Karl Scott unsold.

Champion – No 65 Ballindalloch Home Farm.

Reserve champion – No 60 Karl Scott Foggie.

CLASS 8 – Any other breed - 1 No 68 Fiona Davidson Fordie (Shorthorn) 2500gns; 2 No 69 Alison Watt Brikenburn (Shorthorn) unsold; 3 No 70 J A Sleigh Tolquhon (Salers) unsold and 4 No 71 Rigel Pedigree (Salers) unsold.
